Introduction
The society has a large amount of material which has been donated or loaned to us by the people of Charmouth and beyond.
This material consists largely of documents, maps, objects and an immense number of photographs, both old and relatively recent. Rights to use the photographs on this site have largely been obtained from the people of Charmouth who have donated or loaned us the photographs. If a copyright holder of any photograph displayed on the site wishes to dispute the use of a photograph please contact us. However, we are not responsible for the use of photographs displayed on external websites.
The documents show intriguing aspects of life in the past, from extensive title deeds of buildings which show how families and landlords fitted together, to ledger books of charities and tradesmen showing the detail of work done.
There are Fire Service records and drill books, records of youth organisations, street parties, and Home Guard material from the 2nd World War.
The society works to care for and organise this material and now we have the opportunity to make it accessible online. We will be working gradually to digitize all our collection. Maybe you could let us know what you are most interested in?
